Notes: From Marjorie Wilson: "...I put in William BANCROFT and 1854. Bingo! I nearly fell over. There they were! William and Mary with ages off by a couple of years and an infant son William. But the clincher was the couple above them. David and Charlotte BANCROFT and infant daughter Elizabeth. Now William’s younger brother was named David and he was a perfect match age wise plus I’d 'lost' him in England. I *knew* I’d seen a christening for a child of his and finally found it. He and wife Charlotte christened a daughter Mary Elizabeth in Feb. 1854. They arrived in New York in May, one week prior to the death of William George the elder. Furthermore they were shipwrecked on the way over as their ship, the 'Black Hawk' hit a major storm and was dismasted on her maiden voyage. The passengers were picked up by 4 other ships. The part about the ship wreck had never been passed down in the family to my knowledge." "William BANCROFT is also buried in Cade. A cousin has a photo taken of William’s tombstone the year before they made the cairn. Apparently it was a quite large stone. They said the cemetery was in deplorable condition (they had never seen one worse) and they found Mary Ann’s little footstone loose in the weeds and put it with William’s stone. Well Mary Ann’s stone made it into the cairn but not William’s."
He married Mary Ann Willerton on 8 June 1852 at Register Office, Louth, Lincolnshire, England. 9,10
Mary Ann Willerton11,10 was the daughter of George Willerton and Mary Johnson. She was born on 1 January 1835 at Lincolnshire, England. 12 She was baptized on 4 January 1835 at Great Carlton, Lincolnshire, England. She lived with Son Thomas in 1911 at Caradoc, Middlesex, ON, CA. 13 She immigrated in 1852 in Canada. 14 She died on 14 November 1913 at lot 23 con 2, Caradoc, Middlesex, ON, CA. 15,15 The cause of death was Debility of age, several years15 . She was buried at Cade-Gillam Cemetery, Caradoc, Middlesex, ON, CA. 16
Notes: From Marjorie Wilson: "In the family Mary Ann WILLERTON BANCROFT’s birthday was always celebrated January 1. I have her birthdate down as 1 Jan. 1835. She was definitely not born in 1825 as her tombstone says."

Note: From Marjorie Wilson: "...my dad's youngest sister (who was at that time in a retirement home) gave me a list of BANCROFT info taken from the BANCROFT family Bible. Now I never saw the actual Bible, this was a handwritten extract, so it's certainly possible there could have been errors. I did discover which branch of the family has the Bible. It's the Joseph branch. I did have contact with a granddaughter of Joseph and one of her nieces or nephews had it. I was supposed to be able to examine it on a visit to this lady's sister, but the Bible (so they said) was in sad shape and was away being rebound. Then the sister I visited died and there was never another opportunity."
