Mary Stephenson (11 Jan 1829—27 Sep 1857)

Mary Stephenson1 was the daughter of Samuel Stephenson and Sarah Ann Sibley. She was born on 11 January 1829 at Yarmouth, Elgin, ON, CA. 2 She died on 27 September 1857 at Warwick, Lambton, ON, CA. 3 She was buried at Arkona Cemetery, Bosanquet, Lambton, ON, CA. 4

Notes: [Ross Wilton] Birthdate calculated from death date 09/27/1857 and age at death 9m/16d/27 years 01/11/1829 According to the records identified by Ross Wilton, Lorinda H. (Florinda) Wilton was born June 1853 and died September 12, 1857. However in the 1861 census of Warwick township there is a daughter Florinda who was 4 years old at the time, and therefore was born between April 1857 and March 1858. So presumably at the time of the death of their 4 year old daughter Mary (Stephenson) Wilton was already pregnant with a girl. Now Mary herself died on September 27, 1857, only 2 weeks after her 4 year old daughter. Now it sounds a bit like a Victorian melodrama, but the only logical explanation is that the shock of the death of the 4-year-old Lorinda H. must have triggered labor in her mother, who presumably died as a result of birth complications. The widower Daniel then named the new daughter in honor of her deceased sister. With a large family on his hands he of course rushed to get married as soon as was decent.

She married Daniel Wilton on 1 February 1847 at Yarmouth, Elgin, ON, CA. 5The bride and groom were both residents of Dorchester. They were married by banns, by Rev. Rev. Samuel Baker, Baptist Minister, Malahide. The witnesses were Lydia Baker and John Wilton.

Daniel Wilton was the son of John Wilton and Sarah Churchill. He was born on 9 May 1826 at Frome, Somerset, England. He worked as a Farmer in 1852 at lot 16 con 4, Warwick, Lambton, ON, CA. 6 He worked as a Farmer in 1861 at lot 15 con 6, Warwick, Lambton, ON, CA. 7 He worked as a Farmer in 1871 at lot 15 con 6, Warwick, Lambton, ON, CA. 8 He worked as a Farmer in 1878 at lot 17 con 5, Caradoc, Middlesex, ON, CA. 9 He worked as a Farmer from 1881 to 1891 at Caradoc, Middlesex, ON, CA. 10 He died on 27 February 1893 at Caradoc, Middlesex, ON, CA. 11 He was buried at Mt Brydges United Church, Caradoc, Middlesex, ON, CA. 12
